FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U.S. ARMY RANGER TECHNOLOGY PROVIDES HOPE FOR STROKE PATIENTS
Pensacola, Florida - March 22, 2004

Northwest, FL based Health One Technology (www.healthonetechnology.com) has begun marketing a new activity monitoring system that could provide new hope for stroke patients. The MTI Actigraph system is part of a study being conducted by Dr. Stephen Page at The Drake Center in Cincinnati Ohio.

Doctor Page has been experimenting with a technique called Modified Constraint Induced Therapy (CIT) to help stroke victims regain the use of limbs that have been paralyzed or partially paralyzed by stroke. The therapy consists of special training sessions three times a week that encourage the patient to use the weakened limb. The patient then practices prescribed exercises at home for five hours a day, five days a week. "The goal of the therapy is to induce the brain to reorganize itself and reallocate space to support the affected part,” says Doctor Page. To help patients stick to this routine, Doctor Page uses the MTI Actigraph system to keep a detailed log of the patient's activities away from the clinic.

The Actigraph system was originally developed for the U. S. Army's Rangers to help gauge the performance level of troops. Once the technology was released for civilian use, it was quickly adopted by the National Institute of Health as the gold standard for research ranging from sleep studies to monitoring activity in obese children.

The monitors themselves resemble a small pager. Since they are wireless, compact and lightweight, they do not tend to interfere with the patients movements. The system can be configured to measure the activity level of the patient as a whole or set up to compare activity levels of different limbs. Sophisticated software included with the system provides an extremely accurate analysis of the patient's movements including speed and duration of movements as well as the number of calories burned by the patient.

"While constraint-induced therapy (CIT) has traditionally been effective, it is often difficult and expensive to implement" says Health One Technology president Jeff Arnett. "Once patients leave the clinic, it is easy for them to get discouraged and to neglect their therapy. Our Actigraph system provides a detailed log that helps the patient see progress and ensures better compliance with the therapy with fewer expensive visits to hospitals" says Arnett.

Health One Technology sells and leases the Actigraph system to medical and research centers throughout the United States. Health One Technology is committed to bringing affordable cutting edge medical technology to the medical community through its innovative hardware, software and financial solutions.
